Bone grafting is a surgical solution for jawbone loss and deterioration. The most common causes of jawbone loss are tooth extractions without replacement, periodontal disease, dentures/bridgework, trauma, misalignment, osteomyelitis, tumors, developmental deformities, or sinus deficiencies.
Missing teeth cause the jawbone to atrophy and become absorbed by the body. Bone grafting while removing a tooth is designed to preserve the natural bone contours and preserve the socket. If a tooth has been missing for an extended period, we may recommend a bone graft to strengthen the jaw. A bone graft by Dr. Song will help regenerate the bone necessary for a long-lasting implant.
Sinus lift/augmentation raises the sinus floor to allow for new bone formation in the upper jaw. Bone is added between the jaw and maxillary sinuses to repair damage from periodontal disease often for the proper placement of implants. Dr. Song uses minimally invasive techniques to perform a sinus augmentation to help ensure the stability and durability of your new tooth.
If infection, decay, or damage to a tooth is too extensive to save the tooth, it must be extracted. Wisdom teeth are extracted because they can cause pain and damage to nearby teeth and gum disease.
Before extraction, you will have a consultation and examination to determine the proper treatment options. To remove teeth precisely and in order to minimize disruption to the surrounding teeth/bone/tissue, the latest imaging via Cone Beam Technology will be used. When necessary, teeth will be removed in sections to also minimize risk to adjacent structures. Together, this precision helps provide a more comfortable post-operative experience.
